Satellite Phone

Up to now we have been relying on our mobile phones and mobile broadband for our communications.  We decided last year to "see how it goes" before deciding on a satellite phone.  Well, we've bitten the bullet and have ordered a phone which we'll collect in a couple of weeks.  We've discovered that although Telstra has coverage for about 98% of the population, this translates to less than 30% of the land mass.  Coverage often runs out only a few kms from a town.  During the recent outage to North Queensland we realised just how vulnerable we would be in an emergency situation.  We've opted for the Iridium 9575 phone.  We qualify for the government subsidy since we spend a significant amount of time outside mobile coverage areas.  We've ordered our phone from Rob at ClientSat in WA and highly recommend him for excellent advice and service.
