You guessed it....More Festivals

Every week sees a new festival, and this week we've had three big events on here.

Thursday night was the opening of the 4 day 16th Festival Pianistico di Spoleto (http://www.festivalpianisticodispoleto.it/).  This is an annual piano festival and we have been able to attend a couple of events.  We got some free tickets from the Information Centre for the opening event "L'Amore Che Move il Sole" (The Love That Moves the Sun) which featured pianist Egidio Flamini and the dancers of the Studio Danza Giulibei di Citta di Castello.  We were treated to beautiful music and dancing.  (Just opening the website will play some of the music we heard).  Several of the events associated with the Festival are free to attend so we also went to a lunchtime concert given by the best young students of the festival masterclasses given by of Maestro Aquiles Delle Vigne.  This time we heard music by Beethoven, Chopin, Lizst, Rachmaninov, Schumann and Brahms.   We were really blown away by these talented musicians, several of whom were in their teens.  There was also a Children's Concert (adults allowed only if accompanied by a child) with a Noah's Ark theme - Noah goes on holiday, forgets to turn off the tap and floods the world!  We thoroughly enjoyed the two events we attended - and all free!

Friday at 3pm we made our way to the Piaza Garibaldi to welcome the participants of the "1000 Miglia" vintage and classic car rally.  The rally is over 1,000 miles from from northern Italy to Rome and the cars and drivers spent Friday night in Spoleto. There are 375 cars built between 1937 - 1957 participating in the rally.   Check out "Mille Miglia 2012" on YouTube to see some of the action.  The event is sponsored by Ferrari and there were plenty of them on display for us to drool over.

Our third festival this week has been a children's festival which has been on in several of the small piazzas.  It's been like a school open day where children have stalls displaying their work.  We found a very interesting display about books which had many books, stories and posters by local primary school children.
