South from the Cape

After our few weeks at the base of the Cape, we're heading south again, back to the Atherton Tablelands.  We're spending a few days with friends near Mount Molloy.  We drove back through the white sand dunes and admired the views at the lookouts on the way south.

We're nestled in the sugar cane fields with wonderful views of the mountains.

The road from Mount Malloy through Julatten is one of the few routes to the coast.  We drove down the escarpment and turned left for a quick visit to Mossman.  We were last here in 1978 so have seen some major changes.  After a quick drive around we aimed south along the Captain Cook Highway to Port Douglas.

This is really a holiday town and is one big tourist resort. The markets are on - it's Sunday, and school holidays, and it's very crowded.  We ate our lunch at Flagstaff Hill looking at the view.

It's cane crushing season in Queensland and we've seen plenty of loaded trucks transporting cane to the railheads, ready for transporting to the crushing plants.

As we left Mount Molloy we stopped off at a nearby rest area to give the caravan a quick wash.  Robert had washed the car the day before.  We had picked up plenty of dirt on our trip north.  This lovely spot is on the Molloy River.  We hope the nearby mound belongs to a brush turkey and not a crocodile (we didn't see either).
